Pseudo-Wisdom

It has been a long time since I have written on my blog and I will not lie but I have missed it. There is something about writing your thoughts every day and how it connects you to your own self. It’s quite an interesting way to introspect.

I have been spending time away from posting on social media too and I feel that now the likes of Instagram, Snapchat etc are more for businesses than individual content. Facebook still has it’s place as we find out news about our friends and family, or generally the political climate in our home country or abroad. However, Facebook is not something a 18 year or under runs towards now.

I have started to stay away from Instagram and I used to write poetry on their daily. Eventually, I found that the thoughts I expressed had lost it’s original voice and depth. A few may disagree but I really felt I wasn’t doing justice to the actual thoughts that I had.

I have noticed how individuals are trying to be content creators or influencers and as much as I applaud the efforts, I find that it is more narcisstic and definitely spreading more pseudo-wisdom than anything truly worth remembering. I often wonder would one find the Buddha or Lao Tzu or Krishna ever enjoying what they see on Instagram and the like? They would probably like to retreat to a cave and I must say that it may be the first time ever in my life where I find staying in a cave more interesting than going through the torture of social media.

However, I do find it funny and I do laugh at a lot of people’s attempts of being something special. It is a bit sad and I must add this, that some people on Instagram provide amazing content and it’s a little unfortunate that their talent that is screaming is being drowned by the mediocrity that has become the mainstream.

As I remain more of a spectator of social media than an active participant, it’s wonderful to find out good news on dear friends and family. It brings me a lot of joy when I see genuine happiness and that is what I really look for.

I certainly do not look for wisdom on Instagram and I must say that it is nearly impossible to find it anywhere on social media. I have resorted back to reading on my Kindle, reading about the deep hindu philosophy of advaita vedanta, reading poetry or works by great mystics and therefore increasing my concentration on focus.

In a world today that loses it’s attention span so quickly, I am doing the opposite. I am working on increasing it. This is obviously aided by meditation. Maybe this is why I see the frivolty of so-called influencers and content creators. The biggest question that they need to ask is am I going to be relevant a thousand years from now. If that is a stretch then 100 years from now? If not, then the few days of success will end up being a lifetime of failure. Which will only increase anxiety and possibly, mental illness because when someone loses relevancy, it hits really hard.

For years, I have thought about how to be relevant in today’s day and age. How can my poetry reach far? Then I remind myself of the above. My success lies in how long my work remains. Will it remain for a few years now as a fad or will it be something of an eternal nature. All I know is that I have a lot of work to do internally and on myself and that is what my focus is on.

As much as my discourse above has been based upon the state of social media from my perspective, I do appreciate the entertainment it provides even if they are trying to be serious. It is a little scary too and sometimes I have seen posts talk about mental health issues and the advice provided is not appropriate or even shows a little understanding of the actual issues that people go through. What needs to be understood that the shallowness of their thoughts or pseudo-wisdom cannot comprehend the issues that run deep in the human mind. In topics where professionals’ advice must be shared, others should either spread those professionals advice or not write about it at all.

There is a lot that I want to share with you. All that I share is what I know and whatever I feel helps, I will share that. I want to be authentic and honest and these are the basic values I strongly hold on to. As I grow in my spiritual practice, there is one thing that I am more transparent about and that is ineptness and I am quite vocal about the dangers of such matters. Being genuine and straightforward is better than sugar-coating. Although, my personal philsophy is to sugar-coat first and if someone still doesn’t get it, I just share what I feel in it’s less filtered state. After all, one has to respect the feelings of others even if their pseudo-wisdom will eventually do some harm.

At the moment, pseudo-wisdom is definitely winning and it is gaining huge popularity but the lack of real transformation will eventually lift the veil on the reality of the ‘wisdom’ that was once so inspiring. This is why I go back to the ancient folk because the Truth doesn’t belong to time and therefore, you can be in the world today and practice those pointers without worrying if it is relevant in a modern society. Being enlightened is transcendence and therefore trnascends all apparent limitations.

Anyway, this post was longer than I had anticipated and I just hope that whatever you are doing is the best for you. Keep it real. Keep it authentic. Keep it honest. May joy and happiness be with you in every step that you take.

Love.

What is Spirituality?

The definition of spirituality is aplenty. Some say that it is about becoming a human being, some say that it is to transcend desires, some say that it is to give comfort and peace. Many definitions but the main question for me is whether spirituality is a door that once you walk through, you can never walk back?

The way I see spirituality is very simple but ultimately complex at the same time. Spirituality is the realization of the no-self. Once one attains the state of union, there is no longer two. If there is only one, there is no need to say so. Once we give this formless, or shapeless no-self – the idea of self, even the label, we end up losing what it actually is. It is clear through Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta that there is no-self at all. The mind is not the self and the body is not the self. The only thing that remains is something that if spoken about, it would be destroyed of all it’s essence.

Many people claim to be spiritual but they have some affiliation with some concept and I guess what I am trying to say is that if there is affiliation with one, then there is a possibility of infinite affiliations. If there is no affiliation, no attachment to anything – philosophy or thought, we will find that it encompasses it all. In my head, this all makes sense and I don’t know if this is making any sense to you. I really do find that defining spirituality at its core is a dangerous path because once it is defined as a path, we can create multiple diversions.

Once we discover this no-self, I do find that we end up seeing everything as it were a great theatrical play in motion, this time the characters fail to understand that it is all an act. They have become their characters. The method is now madness. When we are able to step back and observe, the no-self within us in untouched by any of the experiences perceived.

Ultimately, what is the Formless to itself? absolutely nothing and I think this is the fear that we have, we are afraid to be nothing even if it means it leads us to be the nothing that is in everything.

Devotion – An Underrated Practice.

devotional2

The intense longing for the Truth, the strongest desire for the perception of Reality, the heartbreaking moments of losing everything and everyone even your own self for the sake of enlightenment is the beauty of devotion. Dancing like there is nobody watching, dancing by yourself without the need of music because the sound of the universe vibrates around you. Singing like there is nobody listening, singing by yourself without the need of the audience because the only spectator is the Formless One. Speaking like there is nobody listening, speaking with yourself without the need of appreciation, speaking just because you are sharing your heartfelt experiences with the Divinity that is within you, that surrounds you and that permeates within every aspect of creation and yet at the same time is beyond creation.

It is a shame that the western audience for Hinduism, specifically for Advaita Vedanta or nonduality or even neo-advaita is shunning devotion because they feel the intellect can reach the highest state of knowledge. Frankly, it cannot and it never will. They praise Kabir, Shiva, Rumi and yet, the miss the fundamental practice they had and that is bhakti or devotion. They had a strong passion for the Formless and the one who revealed the Formless to them. They praised their Gurus and today, we have become sceptics, albeit not for the wrong reasons, we have not opened our hearts to the Guru.

Self-realisation or God-realisation is impossible without the grace of the Guru. The disciple feels that the Guru is absolutely needed and the Guru will feel equally as dedicated and passionate towards his disciple. I know for a fact that the Satguru or True Teacher is out there, literally in love with his devotees and sacrifices everything he has for them. Devotion is impossible without a Guru.

Here is a poem by Rumi:

Once again my beloved sought me and found
Joyously in the marketplace sought me and found.
I hid myself, at my feet that drunken rose, rose from the ground
I escaped the House of Wine, sought me and found.
How wondrous that so doggedly would hound
What luck that such swindling lock sought me and found.
Who would find me if with crowds myself surround?
Knower of crowded secrets sought me and found.
I have left a bloody trail; just look around
And the one on my trail sought me and found.
Run away to what avail, deathward bound
Why hide, a thousand times sought me and found.
I pulled the thorn from my side, yet one more round
That oak towering flowerbeds sought me and found.
Like a pearl at the bottom of ocean, drowned
Pearl diver, with a string sought me and found.
Shams-e Tabriz with piercing eyes and no sound
In the light of insight sought me and found.

Kabir also says:

Even if the whole earth is transformed into paper,
with all the big trees made into pens,
And if the entire water in the seven oceans are transformed into writing ink,
Even then the glories of the Guru cannot be written.
So much is the greatness of the Guru.

Today, devotion needs to be celebrated and observed correctly. It is not just about passionate love and affection but it is the route to grow within spiritually. Knowledge transforms into wisdom by the act of devotion. Having the intense love to be there with the Beloved, the Formless One. Without the Formless, there is no love for even the forms around us. With Advaita Vedanta and other paths, you may negate until you reach the Formless, but to stay with the Formless, you have to learn to love the Formless unconditionally. Only then does the realisation stay with you. Only then does wonder and awe become an everyday part of your life. Only then do you become an explorer of Reality and Wisdom. This is only when the intense longing of the Formless is within us. To truly be wise, is to truly long for the Formless. The Formless is Reality. The Formless created consciousness. You can only understand the nature of consciousness, if you understand the nature of the Formless.

The Formless is shapeless, ceaseless, boundless, birthless, deathless, self-existent, colourless, endless, without a beginning, full of love, compassion, radiating with peace and harmony, celebrating the oneness of all things. The Formless can be yours but can you let go and surrender to the Formless.

Surrender is not letting go of you, it is letting go of who you think you are. When you surrender then you truly find yourself. Then you truly discover who you are and this Reality will stay with you. Surrender is only possible in duality, once you enter the nondual state then who will it be that surrenders. In the grand scheme of it, it is the Formless surrendering to the Formless. Surrender removes any aspect of the ego that can disturb the process of enlightenment. The chances of surrender become higher with keeping in the company of like-minded people, serving others selflessly and constantly remembering the Formless is within you and around you. Remembering the Formless not as a form of repetition but as a form of daily practice. Every feeling, every intention, every emotion and every thought must be done with the remembrance of the nature of the Formless.

Devotion is the key to spiritual enlightenment. It can be done instantly and it all depends on how much you really want to be enlightened by the Formless One. The path of devotion is simple and it is simple because the Formless is simple. It doesn’t need to be complicated by massive words which mean nothing. The less you want the Formless then frankly the longer it will take you to be enlightened. It is not if you become enlightened either, you already are but the ego will always make a goal or a meaning out of it. Being on the path of devotion, you have to let go of meaning, of concept and context. You simple have to be in this moment. This moment reveals the eternal. Give time to the Timeless and you will see a moment transform into eternity. Devotion adds juice to your journey. Without it, your faith, your practice will stand like a wilted tree, bored and secluded in the desert. However, devotion will be like an oasis in the desert. Not only does the oasis enjoy itself but others feel blessed by the presence of the oasis. They also drink the nectar that leads them into immortality.

The path of devotion is extremely important. I would go far to say that it is the best way to God, to the Formless, to Reality or whatever you would like to call it. You can even curse This, and if you do it out of love and passion then it will reveal itself unto you. It is not partial to words. You think God is so sad that He analyses each word. He knows you analyse it yourself and you yourself provide your own punishment. God neither punishes nor congratulates. He has left that to You!

Post 95 – Knowing is the Only Way!

Hi readers!

Hope you are well.

I had a thought, can I call it a thought or shall I say revelation? Hear this out: ‘If you know the Truth then you don’t know. You can only be in knowing of the Truth.’

I probably could say the last sentence with greater clarity but I shall explain this a little now. Whenever, you come to a point and say ‘I know the Truth’ that cannot be the Truth speaking. It can only mean that you have given up knowing or desiring to know more. Instead, you have made the Truth a possession and you cannot possess the Truth. It cannot be grasped nor seen but it creates a great amount of intensity within you. It creates something intimate, where the feelings overflow into something magnificent. So the state of what is called enlightenment is the discovery of knowing. Knowing is everlasting, it is infinite and therefore cannot be grasped by thought. If it is, it creates memory and memory cannot be the Truth. Truth is always new, always fresh and pleasant as it is created from wisdom. Truth is freedom. Memory is distorted and can lead to illusion as it is base is knowledge or just mere words on a paper. Memory is a prison.

Therefore, meditation must be treated as a ground for inner enquiry and discovery. It is easy to say there is a God or there is a soul. But has this very discovery been your own? Never be comfortable with any idea. The Truth is never comfortable because it implies knowing which leads to internal growing. Remember, knowing is a verb, it is action. And to know really means you knew. If you know something today then tomorrow it may be something different. Therefore, this means you ‘knew’, you don’t ‘know’ it. You have to think about this. This might sound a little too intellectual but if you let this settle within you, enquire within you, be part of this whole discussion then something great can be discovered. Can you know God? Can you know the Truth?

I shall keep this post nice and small so you may think about it.

My love to all,

Rahul

Dawkins’ Atheism is narrow-minded

Dawkins: “I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world.”

Best wishes for the New Year to all my readers. I wish you all the success and happiness in the universe. May this year bring awareness to important issues in this world and let’s make it a better place, by individually changing to help and guide humanity.

Now, above we have a statement by Richard Dawkins. He is a respected Atheist. I am going to be fair because I am going to look at both sides of the argument.

For:

I can understand where Dawkins is coming from. With the theory of evolution, scientists are proving and have proved that the universe is expanding. It is very obvious that the universe is very much alive, very much full of energy. However, going to christian story – the world was created in 6 days and God rested on the 7th. God has somehow fitted into our calender. I am sure he never came up with months, days and years when he was creating. So yes, on the 7th day he was resting. Now, as someone with doubts, I would ask what was God doing on the 7th day and thereafter. Has he been continually resting? Has he died? Or has he moved on and created new worlds within new galaxies within the whole, continuously expanding universe? I believe Islam is a little supportive in the theory of evolution as it says Allah had created everything in over 6 long periods.

However, even if we take that, religion has taught us one thing and that is to have blind faith completely. Do not question. Do not doubt. Do not expect answers. If you question it then you are anti-god. Why do you want to go in depth for? You do not need to know so much? Why has religion tried to dumb down our intelligence. When we read something, don’t we have a few questions? Where do we search for the answer.

I don’t think Dawkins has come across meditation but in meditation we are told to understand the world. Also, there is no satisfaction until we understand the world and the universe that surrounds us.

Faith is a funny thing, if you have faith, it does imply uncertainty. The fact is, you cannot see God, he is the invisible man but people continue to pray. They have not understood the vibrations of the Earth but they continue to fall in a trance in temples. Religion has not moved with the times either, as much as the texts may explain a scientific background, the social aspect of religion is very stupid. They want peace but they will hold the sword to your neck and force you to convert. Even though it is not that extreme today, terrorism is still committing to the old times.

Against:

As much as the Dawkins’ statement is profound to atheists, I am not satisfied with it completely. First of all, religion is a huge concept, it is not just christianity, which I believe is the only religion that Dawkins has truly looked into. You must have knowledge of all religions before you claim that there is no God. It is not necessary to say every religion is bad. They all have their flaws but there are some great things about religion. In fact, Dawkins does not need to look far. Look at the Pagans, they connect with mother nature. Is there any understanding on them? In fact, has Dawkins looked at the two religions that do not believe in a God – Jainism and Buddhism?

Religion has faith, which gives hope. The biggest drug in the world is this word ‘hope’. Everybody is hoping that after death that there will be paradise, beautiful angels, virgin angels all in a line waiting for you. Some believe that you simply enter back into existence and it is possible to do that. I can trust you can as an individual, with the aid of meditation – which is tool to connect your mind and body to the soul. You can certainly connect to the universe, to the all-pervading existence eventually with constant meditation.

Religion certainly does not allow you to explore your individuality and that is your world. There is no need to connect to the Earth, to the Universe, to even God, all these attempts will be futile, if you cannot explore your inner consciousness – the house of your individuality then what is the point? However, it is religion that has made us realise that we are souls. Individual souls that are on this earth. It is also humans that have tried to connect to the universe, in some form or another. People have described God to be Formless, yet still believe he is a Being. Which in essence, he is still a being if one wants to believe in that.

However, I believe that religion has allowed me to explore the Unseen, the One who cannot be given a name, the Unexplainable. The universe seems peaceful, even a black hole that will eventually have some energy fall into it and then no one knows what happens after that. Symbolic Death can be seen similar to that. You enter pure darkness, falling somewhere and then you may be out of the other side. The way humans can see this to support religion is simple. The body is the black hole. On the other-side of the black hole is the Super-Consciousness  – what can be called God if it makes you extremely proud of your faith. But what surrounds the black hole is the universe or a solar system which can be termed as our Individual Consciousness. With that Individual Consciousness, when the black hole (the body) detects it, then the consciousness falls into the body and that is where the alchemy is conducted. As the consciousness travels through the body – it then reaches the Super-Consciousness that cannot be comprehended or described into words. It cannot be given a definition. It is within those moments, enlightenment must take place. The Super-Consciousness is the existence that has always existed, that is always creating, that is always expanding. See your Individual Consciousness is within you at all times, and it does seem that it is out of the body but it isn’t. It is within the body but due to our lack of awareness, due to the lack of individuality, it is perceived to be above us, or around us. However, take the body as something that is a vessel. The Consciousness within you will burst out of the body, not literally. It will be very disgusting to see blood and guts everywhere. It will burst out of the body and will connect with the Super-Consciousness. Just see it like wires from one end connecting to the wires on the other end. It is when the Individual Consciousness and the Super-Consciousness becomes one that we attain enlightenment. It is complete awareness. It is complete enjoyment. That is salvation in its true essence.

Dawkins is wrong to say religion has taught us to be satisfied with not understanding the world. It is right to say that Dawkins has taught us to be satisfied with atheism with not understanding every religion. In fact, Dawkins’ version of Atheism is very narrow-minded. It is just as worse as the Bible, that he always criticises.

I don’t believe in a God, I know God does not exist. The followers of religion and spirituality may not be happy with my statement. The once close friends or the close friends I have may not be impressed with my exploration. But I have gone to the hidden depths of the Formlessness of the so-called God. I cannot give it a name as it is Formless. How can you name something that is Formless? Even calling it Formless is a straight cut contradiction. I have gone down to the simple basics. God does not exist but Super-Consciousness does exist. It’s the Super-Consciousness that unravels the secret of the Universe. The secret is so simple that it shouldn’t have become a secret. However, religion/spirituality has really dumbed down a very simple secret. They have dumbed it down into complication. They have took the holiness out of the secret with their jargon and beautiful verses. Their own myths and legends have overshadowed the simple secret. Religion is simply digging it’s own grave. All we needs is awareness of our individual consciousness and the secret will slowly unravel by itself.

Stay blessed with compassion,

Rahul N Singh
