The definition of spirituality is aplenty. Some say that it is about becoming a human being, some say that it is to transcend desires, some say that it is to give comfort and peace. Many definitions but the main question for me is whether spirituality is a door that once you walk through, you can never walk back?
The way I see spirituality is very simple but ultimately complex at the same time. Spirituality is the realization of the no-self. Once one attains the state of union, there is no longer two. If there is only one, there is no need to say so. Once we give this formless, or shapeless no-self – the idea of self, even the label, we end up losing what it actually is. It is clear through Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta that there is no-self at all. The mind is not the self and the body is not the self. The only thing that remains is something that if spoken about, it would be destroyed of all it’s essence.
Many people claim to be spiritual but they have some affiliation with some concept and I guess what I am trying to say is that if there is affiliation with one, then there is a possibility of infinite affiliations. If there is no affiliation, no attachment to anything – philosophy or thought, we will find that it encompasses it all. In my head, this all makes sense and I don’t know if this is making any sense to you. I really do find that defining spirituality at its core is a dangerous path because once it is defined as a path, we can create multiple diversions.
Once we discover this no-self, I do find that we end up seeing everything as it were a great theatrical play in motion, this time the characters fail to understand that it is all an act. They have become their characters. The method is now madness. When we are able to step back and observe, the no-self within us in untouched by any of the experiences perceived.
Ultimately, what is the Formless to itself? absolutely nothing and I think this is the fear that we have, we are afraid to be nothing even if it means it leads us to be the nothing that is in everything.
Here are a few thoughts I want to just express as they enter my mind.
The body is a temple and we need to be mindful of what we eat and the environment that it has come from. Understanding this, we can look after ourselves better and lead a life of health and wellbeing.
Our live can either be a collection of moments that we have fully lived in or a fleeting shadow that is forgotten.
We can watch the behavior of others, observe and reflect and improve our own lives. We don’t always have to make mistakes and making mistakes is part of an awesome journey.
Sometimes when we think we know something with certainty, we find that the truth is something else. It is not bad to change your opinion, in fact it says more about how truthful and adaptable you are over being stubborn.
Love guides us more than we like to believe. Love provides an imprint on our soul that we can never forget.
Today, my day was attempting to be stressful and there was huge pressure from work and I could just feel this cloud gover over me, ready to collapse at any time. Even though, the perception would be that the cloud is light, not this one. The cloud of stress is heavy.
In these times, I try to remain mindful, observe my surroundings and try and be a little bit positive. Even when it is tough to do so, I try not to stop smiling. However, that doesnt mean I just cope. In certain circumstances, when I have felt misused or taken advantage of, I end up looking for new opportunities.
The one thing that I do when looking for new opportunities is to make sure that I remain positive and optimistic. It is important that a sense of peace and happiness should be done in the search for new opportunities. The energy that we give out to our environment, is the energy that is most likely to continue. So if it is negative, negative will be the environment, positive and positive will be the environment.
I will not lie that today I felt like I was being crushed, overwhelmed and somehow thrown under the bus but I only allow that to happen if I accept that it is happening in my consciousness. Instead I turned those feelings to this is a challenge and opportunity to show my resilience and initiative.
I hope your day went well and share with me, how you have dealt with such situations.
The morning has some amazing qualities, there is a capturing silence that pervades the whole area around you. You start to see the beginning of the sunrise and the birds that chirping melodious to a sound that they can probably hear from the other end of the universe. Such beautiful melodies that no human mind can touch.
I have often wondered that a morning really helps define the day. If I wake up with gratitude and joy, I tend to face the situations of day to day life, minute to minute situations with a little bit more aliveness. However, if I wake up grumpy and miserable then I feel like the world is trying to attack me. Yes, the very world that I have created. I, myself am the architect of my reality that is ruled by sensual perceptions. This is true for all of us right now or before we attain some sort of spiritual awakening.
Going back to waking up with gratitude and happiness, it’s not that the world doesn’t attack us, or people do not upset us in the day. They do what they need to do. However, it will not hit you as hard as it does for those that wake up in a ‘bad’ mood.
We truly define our morning as well as our own day. If I want to, if I have woken up in the morning absolutely miserable, I can remind myself that ‘I, myself am the architect of my reality.’ This time without sense perception of what I see, hear, touch, taste or smell. This time, there is no interference. To the point, that I am able to even transcend the thought ‘I, myself am the architect of my reality.’
This would lead me to a thoughtless state of just observing and being aware. This is not just me, but the story of you too. This is the story for all of us. One day, we will all travel to a point where we touch the edge of a thoughtless experience (as I am listening to Hans Zimmer’s No Time for Caution from Interstellar) and choose to either dwell in it or turn our backs to it.
