What is Spirituality?

The definition of spirituality is aplenty. Some say that it is about becoming a human being, some say that it is to transcend desires, some say that it is to give comfort and peace. Many definitions but the main question for me is whether spirituality is a door that once you walk through, you can never walk back?

The way I see spirituality is very simple but ultimately complex at the same time. Spirituality is the realization of the no-self. Once one attains the state of union, there is no longer two. If there is only one, there is no need to say so. Once we give this formless, or shapeless no-self – the idea of self, even the label, we end up losing what it actually is. It is clear through Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta that there is no-self at all. The mind is not the self and the body is not the self. The only thing that remains is something that if spoken about, it would be destroyed of all it’s essence.

Many people claim to be spiritual but they have some affiliation with some concept and I guess what I am trying to say is that if there is affiliation with one, then there is a possibility of infinite affiliations. If there is no affiliation, no attachment to anything – philosophy or thought, we will find that it encompasses it all. In my head, this all makes sense and I don’t know if this is making any sense to you. I really do find that defining spirituality at its core is a dangerous path because once it is defined as a path, we can create multiple diversions.

Once we discover this no-self, I do find that we end up seeing everything as it were a great theatrical play in motion, this time the characters fail to understand that it is all an act. They have become their characters. The method is now madness. When we are able to step back and observe, the no-self within us in untouched by any of the experiences perceived.

Ultimately, what is the Formless to itself? absolutely nothing and I think this is the fear that we have, we are afraid to be nothing even if it means it leads us to be the nothing that is in everything.

Be True to Yourself

The sign of a person drenched in ego is very simple. I have contemplated on this human behavior for a long time. I came across it while I was at university and a situation occurred in my life, which I was really agonized and upset about. Also, a similar situation has occurred in recent times too.

The human behavior that I am talking about is when people lecture about forgiveness, yet have no remorse for their actions. Instead, they teach you why you should forgive and yet it is their deeds that have upset you. You tend to look at the person and wonder if they are being for real. Like, did they not understand what they did?

I have this habit of being absolutely silent with someone when I am not happy with them. This is for a few reasons. I know myself and I know that my tongue can be razor sharp, so instead of saying anything hurtful, it is better for me to be silent. If someone tends to act holy than thou and I know their reality then I am going to be silent because such false appearances can anger me and again, my razor tongue will give out venomous words. I forgive straight away, but I am aware always and my awareness takes me to silence.

I understand forgiveness and when someone is asking for it. I understand an apology even if the word ‘sorry’ isn’t expressed or of those lines. I completely understand if someone says other words but I get their vibe, I understand their energy and I accept the apology and move forward with the relation.

What I don’t like is when someone tells me I am not adhering to a certain philosophy or I am not practicing my Master’s teachings, or I am apparently not walking the walk. Soon as I hear things, I am automatically shutting down any desire to forgive or to move on. It may be that the perception of me is not ‘ideal’ but at least I am true to myself. I am true to my feelings. I don’t give a false act.

I believe in oneness of all but that doesn’t mean I have to get along with everyone. There are differences and that is beautiful in itself. I am happy where I am and others can be happy where they are. In fact, this is peaceful co-existence.

Like I always say, I am not a perfect person and enlightened beings are not perfect either.  History has shown us that but what is perfect is if we embrace imperfections.

The whole point of my post today is to say that I am not someone that is false, I am practicing my Master’s teachings wholeheartedly and I do stumble, no matter what is being perceived. I know what is happening internally within me and only me and Master knows what that is.

Management and Balance

We go to work and sometimes we want to do our very best but we have pressing deadlines, we have projects to start, projects to keep tracking, projects that are about to finish and all we want is to have a bit of peace time to do the quality work that is necessary.

Sometimes, we take on so much work that the quality decreases and as we all now, deadlines and added work never mix well together. However, what really defines a place is how the management deal with everything that is going on.

To me, the role of a manager is to lead by example, whether in crisis or at peace time. One, they are always courteous and respectful. Two, they look to resolve something and make minimal comments about the matter. They don’t give their opinion, they look for solutions. Three, they look to encourage instead of discourage. Four, they put trust at the forefront of the conversation.

With these 4 aspects, if the manager follows that, the employee works super hard and does their best work as long as they are able to complete the tasks under the weekly work hours. It is all about understanding and when we come from that place, we are mindful of the employee and their journey. We will consider what is going on in their lives, what their perceptions are of their managers, how are they feeling about the tasks they are doing and most of all, that work is not adding stress to their lives but making their lives easier.

For me, the sign of how well a manager is doing is if their employee looks forward to going to work every morning. If they don’t, then something is up. The manager may not be the issue but upper management. What really needs to happen is a true dialogue.

Many times, our egos like to take control of a situation and it runs on a rampage and tries to destroy everything that is perceptually wrong but only if we dug a little deeper, tried to be reasonable and had a balanced mind, managers would see the larger picture.

We have to work hard when we go to work for sure, but never overwork that you reach the point of stressing out. It is not worth it. Keep your cool and keep your peace.

3 ways that wonder has helped me

The ability to wonder is truly what makes life worth living. I am sure there have been moments for you when you have seen the world through the eyes of wonder. You see things with a new vision, you see things in a new light and nothing ever looks repeated.

Sometimes, I feel that I lack wonder when it is such a natural state to be in. I tend to judge things or interpret things when really if I truly saw it with wonder, it could open new doors to perception.

It may be that words are never enough to express the importance of wonder but let me give you three ways that being in wonder has helped me so far:

  1. I understand the limitations to my perception when I view things with the past or the future.
  2. I gain new insights and can express creatively.
  3. Love flows not only freely but endlessly too.

Being in wonder has been a spiritual goal of mine for quite some time now, it is the letting go of the ego which is so important if we want to live a life of wonder.

Being a slave to the ego only harms what wonder can bring. Like I said, that open-mind, that creative mind is what makes the world a better place.

Following vs Discovering

I spent some time on my walk today thinking about the difference between following and discovering. Let me tell you about my contemplation on this.

Following

When we follow, we tend to be more spectators. We tend to just scroll through content very mindlessly and have very little interaction with it. Sometimes we even like a quote and save it but how many times do we go back to that quote? How many times do we actually remember it? Don’t we always find something unique and interesting when we scroll through information? We also follow things very unconsciously. We hardly think about what purpose it serves us.

Discovery

This state of mind is exceptionally amazing. Imagine perceiving life through a new set of eyes everyday. I don’t mean new physical eyes but everyday you have a cleansed perception. Even if you read the same thing twice, it feels like you have read it the first time. If you have seen or heard something twice or more, each time it sounds more beautiful because you approach it as a discovery. A discovery gives you that feeling of an adventure. You don’t know about the ocean but you want to dive deep into it. Every time, you dive deep into the ocean of your own mind, you discover a new insight, you intuitively discover something beautiful.

Daily routine

I was thinking that even if we do things that we do on a regular basis with a sense of discovery, we would enjoy each moment of life a little bit more than the last moment. This is because we are not burdened by the past or the future of something. We are directly experiencing it right in front of us, right now. This allows our journey of life to be unique and special.

May each day of yours be one of discovery.

Heart slayer

It’s an love and hate relationship,

Our hearts are like sinkin’ ships.

Love can be as pure as gold,

At the auction I’m saying ‘Heart SOLD!’

Getting your love is my dream,

Watchin’ Inception as a video stream.

Subconsciously you still love me,

Our souls have gone through the extreme.

In this moment; it looks one-sided,

It would change if our bodies collided.

My love is layered within layers,

I simply don’t want to be a heart slayer.

Atleast give me and you this one last chance,

See if we can transform it into a wedding dance.

Let’s not fight and ignore our attractions,

Let’s give our lives that extra satisfaction.

True love is one of my best abilities,

It matches my multi-functional personalities.

I’m yours until the final invitation,

My death will only be your perception.

Lots of love and God bless,
