I look at the picture of my Satguru, the Enlightened Teacher that has transformed my life and I can’t thank Him enough for all He has done.
His words although said in a simple way, once you get thinking about it, they enter a depth you never saw in the first instance. Is my Satguru misunderstood? Maybe. Do I understand Him? Not enough.
I have a close bond with Him and it is not because our families are close. It may have a part to play and I acknowledge that. However, what is the real relationship?
I am not shy to say that I have realised the Formless by the True Knowledge that my Satguru has given to me. This True Knowledge, known in sanskrit as Brahm Gyan, opens up your mind and body to accept the soul as the driver of your life. The Soul, the Eternal Witness realises that it is no longer the body and mind. It realises that it is a part of everything and everyone. Therefore, this ‘I’ that says it is realised is not of the mind or body and therefore does not belong to Rahul.
If I die today, I am liberated because my eyes have seen the true form of my Satguru. I know that He is not the body and mind but He is the very energy that I worship. The Supreme Consciousness that we can call God, that is Him. He is no less to that.
I am always asked that ‘What is the point of a Guru, if you have realised the Truth. If He tells you to worship the Formless, then why do you worship a form (Satguru) still?’ It is a very profound question and I’ve spent time answering it in many ways.
However, today I have a different take on the question. If I worship the Formless, I worship the Form the Formless has taken to reveal Himself. I worship that Form, who is a mirror and says to me that I can be like Him because I am Him. Without that Form of the Satguru, I wouldn’t know the Formless, I wouldn’t be able to perceive nor see the Formless, nor could I ever have a conversation with Him.
The fact is that the Guru does not need me but I need Him. I need Him when my faith falls because He shows me that it hasn’t fallen. You know why? He is always holding my hand, saving me from falling. He walks an extra step to remove any obstacles in my path so I do not trip up.
After realisation, it is hard to function in the world and this is where the Satguru is the most helpful. If you truly listen to Him, be connected to Him, have gratitude for Him, He will let your feeling of enlightenment not overwhelm you. It will allow you to stay alive because I have the same desire that He has. We have a world to protect and a humanity to keep alive. A humanity that is enlightened with the beauty of diversity. The Union between me and the Formless, the Union between me and the Satguru has united me with everything and I see it all as my own.
If you have a Guru, I would be honoured to read your experiences.
His blessings and love,
I stared at this Path with His wondrous Self,
I looked into His eyes that smiled freely,
He anticipated my doubts and delusions,
All He did was walk ahead of me as if in ignorance.
I watched a doubt arise and delusion in despair,
He would turn around every time with a smile,
To check if I was still focussed,
Or was I about to lose to the wavering mind?
He stopped by a tree that was ready to blossom,
He touched the centre of my forehead,
A gust of wind appeared out of nowhere,
Stood still by the tree as if seeking permission.
It felt that now that time had stopped,
Was I about to receive the Teaching I longed for?
His compassion and mercy pierced my heart,
I had no desire but to learn of the Artist of this Art!
He didn’t utter a word nor give a sound,
Nor a sign or a hint to offer as a guide.
He closed His eyes and I followed Him,
Little did I know what was in store for me!
I got sucked into a swirling vortex
My senses defeated so who am I?
Everything came to a screeching halt,
Colours of mist appeared never seen before.
My Guru walked ahead of me on the Path,
Not because He is first and I am second.
He made sure nothing hurt me on the Path,
His feet bruised and my feet untouched.
How these visions appeared without intention,
As if the Truth felt obliged to reveal,
My Guru surrounded me yet nowhere to be seen,
What do I do amongst indescribable colours?
A blink of an eye and I was back on the Path,
The Guru with His eyes open featured beaming smile,
The gust of wind stood still like a guard,
A clap and the blossom rained from above.
The path filled with flowers and petals,
This was the moment the heavens celebrated,
Perceptions heightened accessing all dimensions,
I had finally realised who I am.
This only happens with the Guru’s grace,
The Truth comes to you not the other way round.
The Truth in fact is always here,
Do we realise its access is eternal-bound?
Without the Guru the path is dull and dark,
Even realisation will bring you pain and hurt,
Everything is smooth once the task is complete,
Until then the Guru is everything you do not seek.
He will shatter every belief you possess,
Question every ritual you do in spiritual pretence,
Create situations to test your emotions,
Losing your balance is it He that you will hold?
The Guru is the glistening Reality,
That is Self-revealing and Self-created,
It neither needs ‘me’ nor ‘you’
This is the objectivity the Guru requires.
Bliss descends upon you from the Beyond,
This is blessing from the Blissful Beloved,
Standing in front of me with no form to see,
Just a Formless Self an endless Presence.
The intense longing for the Truth, the strongest desire for the perception of Reality, the heartbreaking moments of losing everything and everyone even your own self for the sake of enlightenment is the beauty of devotion. Dancing like there is nobody watching, dancing by yourself without the need of music because the sound of the universe vibrates around you. Singing like there is nobody listening, singing by yourself without the need of the audience because the only spectator is the Formless One. Speaking like there is nobody listening, speaking with yourself without the need of appreciation, speaking just because you are sharing your heartfelt experiences with the Divinity that is within you, that surrounds you and that permeates within every aspect of creation and yet at the same time is beyond creation.
It is a shame that the western audience for Hinduism, specifically for Advaita Vedanta or nonduality or even neo-advaita is shunning devotion because they feel the intellect can reach the highest state of knowledge. Frankly, it cannot and it never will. They praise Kabir, Shiva, Rumi and yet, the miss the fundamental practice they had and that is bhakti or devotion. They had a strong passion for the Formless and the one who revealed the Formless to them. They praised their Gurus and today, we have become sceptics, albeit not for the wrong reasons, we have not opened our hearts to the Guru.
Self-realisation or God-realisation is impossible without the grace of the Guru. The disciple feels that the Guru is absolutely needed and the Guru will feel equally as dedicated and passionate towards his disciple. I know for a fact that the Satguru or True Teacher is out there, literally in love with his devotees and sacrifices everything he has for them. Devotion is impossible without a Guru.
Here is a poem by Rumi:
Once again my beloved sought me and found
Joyously in the marketplace sought me and found.
I hid myself, at my feet that drunken rose, rose from the ground
I escaped the House of Wine, sought me and found.
How wondrous that so doggedly would hound
What luck that such swindling lock sought me and found.
Who would find me if with crowds myself surround?
Knower of crowded secrets sought me and found.
I have left a bloody trail; just look around
And the one on my trail sought me and found.
Run away to what avail, deathward bound
Why hide, a thousand times sought me and found.
I pulled the thorn from my side, yet one more round
That oak towering flowerbeds sought me and found.
Like a pearl at the bottom of ocean, drowned
Pearl diver, with a string sought me and found.
Shams-e Tabriz with piercing eyes and no sound
In the light of insight sought me and found.
Kabir also says:
Even if the whole earth is transformed into paper,
with all the big trees made into pens,
And if the entire water in the seven oceans are transformed into writing ink,
Even then the glories of the Guru cannot be written.
So much is the greatness of the Guru.
Today, devotion needs to be celebrated and observed correctly. It is not just about passionate love and affection but it is the route to grow within spiritually. Knowledge transforms into wisdom by the act of devotion. Having the intense love to be there with the Beloved, the Formless One. Without the Formless, there is no love for even the forms around us. With Advaita Vedanta and other paths, you may negate until you reach the Formless, but to stay with the Formless, you have to learn to love the Formless unconditionally. Only then does the realisation stay with you. Only then does wonder and awe become an everyday part of your life. Only then do you become an explorer of Reality and Wisdom. This is only when the intense longing of the Formless is within us. To truly be wise, is to truly long for the Formless. The Formless is Reality. The Formless created consciousness. You can only understand the nature of consciousness, if you understand the nature of the Formless.
The Formless is shapeless, ceaseless, boundless, birthless, deathless, self-existent, colourless, endless, without a beginning, full of love, compassion, radiating with peace and harmony, celebrating the oneness of all things. The Formless can be yours but can you let go and surrender to the Formless.
Surrender is not letting go of you, it is letting go of who you think you are. When you surrender then you truly find yourself. Then you truly discover who you are and this Reality will stay with you. Surrender is only possible in duality, once you enter the nondual state then who will it be that surrenders. In the grand scheme of it, it is the Formless surrendering to the Formless. Surrender removes any aspect of the ego that can disturb the process of enlightenment. The chances of surrender become higher with keeping in the company of like-minded people, serving others selflessly and constantly remembering the Formless is within you and around you. Remembering the Formless not as a form of repetition but as a form of daily practice. Every feeling, every intention, every emotion and every thought must be done with the remembrance of the nature of the Formless.
Devotion is the key to spiritual enlightenment. It can be done instantly and it all depends on how much you really want to be enlightened by the Formless One. The path of devotion is simple and it is simple because the Formless is simple. It doesn’t need to be complicated by massive words which mean nothing. The less you want the Formless then frankly the longer it will take you to be enlightened. It is not if you become enlightened either, you already are but the ego will always make a goal or a meaning out of it. Being on the path of devotion, you have to let go of meaning, of concept and context. You simple have to be in this moment. This moment reveals the eternal. Give time to the Timeless and you will see a moment transform into eternity. Devotion adds juice to your journey. Without it, your faith, your practice will stand like a wilted tree, bored and secluded in the desert. However, devotion will be like an oasis in the desert. Not only does the oasis enjoy itself but others feel blessed by the presence of the oasis. They also drink the nectar that leads them into immortality.
The path of devotion is extremely important. I would go far to say that it is the best way to God, to the Formless, to Reality or whatever you would like to call it. You can even curse This, and if you do it out of love and passion then it will reveal itself unto you. It is not partial to words. You think God is so sad that He analyses each word. He knows you analyse it yourself and you yourself provide your own punishment. God neither punishes nor congratulates. He has left that to You!
His Love and Blessings,
Rahul N Singh
A vast, changeless, void that looks like nothingness or emptiness. An atom is 99.9% pure energy and what we see is really just 0.01% of the atom. The Formless Reality is everywhere and in everything. It is a state beyond nothingness. Nothingness cannot be nothing when you can observe nothingness. If an observer is present then that means there is an element of awareness within that nothingness. This element is what is formless – this is Nirankar.
David Bohm towards the end of his life had likened humanity to be the “mirror created by the universe to reflect upon itself.” What does this mean? Upon reflection, we can discover that if humanity is a mirror created by the universe to reflect upon itself then we know this isn’t far from the Upanishadic thought that Brahman created the world in order to discover Himself.
We live in an era where people place scientific thought to be based as truth rather than their own experience and documented spiritual realisations. This is where I feel people falter. Spirituality is considered just as ludicrous as dogmatic religion. Spirituality is about your own experience and the eventual realisation of why you are here. It is to discover the obvious fact which is that we are the 99.9% of the atom and the 0.01% is merely our physical forms that we see with our limited perceptions. How can we human beings with our limited minds be able to understand a complex universe that can do whatever it wants at any given time? We are at the will of the Universe or the 99.9% and we think the 0.01% with it’s limited apparatus can understand and measure the vastness of the Formless? This is madness.
The vastness of the Formless is beyond any words expressed here. It contains so much love that intensifies within every moment. Love is beyond every dimension and it is within every dimension. The purpose of the whole universe, the whole reason behind it realising itself is out of pure love.
Time fails in front of IT as this is Infinite. It is timeless. It goes beyond time. What is time? The future and past are both in the present and therefore there is nothing as past. It is one time at every given time. A moment is an eternity. How can Formless Energy be given the parameters of time? In fact, how can the Formless be measured? It cannot be measured. The only apparatus you have is your self and when you realise your self then you are one with the Formless. Then you feel the Formless Nirankar. Nirankar means formless. You and the Formless are unified and bind together. You both expand as one. When the walls are broken down, the bridge towards wisdom and clarity appears. This is when our heart opens up to devotion to the Formless. Our dancing becomes the dance. Our singing becomes the song. Our writing becomes the poem. Such is the experience when the Formless enters our consciousness. In fact, it does not enter your consciousness, it IS your consciousness.
The endeavour of all spiritual discovery is to live in the Light of the Formless, to live in the energy of the Formless. To accept the grace of the Formless and enjoy the blessing that showers upon the soul. The challenge in life is not about remembering the Formless, the real challenge is living as the Formless. People are doing this and I bow to them. They are blessed and they keep blessing me. I am humbled by the One who imparted this Divine Wisdom to me as it led to my realisation.
This realisation is the best thing. Nirankar, the Formless is the love of my life. I cannot trade this wisdom for anything as nothing can ever be valued against This. The realisation has allowed me to travel to dimensions untouched by the limited human mind, it has allowed me to travel through time to timelessness, it has allowed me to perceive matter as it is. It has allowed me to expand into this Vast Void and then dissolve into it so that only the Formless remains.
Nirankar is not nothing, it is everything!
The moment I hear his voice, my whole world comes to a standstill, now it is only me and Him and that is all that matters. My Guru is my life, my soul, my everything. It is a relationship unlike any other. One way or another, we have relationships that expect and the expectations are impossible to meet. My Guru just expects me to realise who I am and the rest will follow.
What is special about my Satguru? Satguru means the teacher that leads you from darkness to light. He is modern, communicates with modern technology, understands that the future generation have a chance to change things, he is attentive to every detail and yet is able to be completely present. Some will see this and be like well there is nothing special about this. I would ask them try for 5 minutes to be aware of this present moment and see if you can? Most likely, they cannot pass one minute, yet my Guru practices this every day and doesn’t take this as an act to be done but an action that is continuously occurring.
A Guru is not someone that dictates things to you. He is a guide, and it is with His love and compassion that you feel comfortable in confiding in Him and trusting Him with your deepest issues. Issues that family cannot understand, friends will choose not to understand and yet, He will listen with great attention and with infinite compassion. This gives hope to me that one can achieve this state. A Guru doesn’t tell you that He can do something that you can’t. A Guru tells you that you can do everything that He is doing. It is simply surrendering the ego and entering the awakened vision. A vision of non-judgment, a bridging of all matter in the thread of oneness and non-duality. Diversity is found in unity and unity is found in diversity. This is the vision a Guru gives you.
It is not transmitted and yet it is. You still have to work for it but something clicks within you and then the heightened awareness appears. Once this occurs then the Guru’s grace descends and His blessings are fully emitted as you see the Formless. The Cause of all Creation, we call Him – Nirankar.
I cannot explain in mere words what a Guru can do for you. If you do approach a genuine one and I feel I have. He is genuine, humble, kind and extremely likeable. He is down to earth but His wisdom reaches the farthest star. I know people say that this could be my feeling but I say why not meet Him? Why not try to get to know Him? Much is misunderstood in the Guru-disciple relationship and only a perfect Guru can eliminate all doubts and delusions.
We all say we are willing to be adventurous but the real adventure is when the Guru shows you that self-realisation is through god-realisation. Having god-realisation, you may find oneness between you and Him but there will still be a subtle difference. You may realise God and that is great but even greater is allowing God to present Himself in your Self. Your True Self. Then Oneness becomes Isness. This Isness is the Guru’s blessings.
This is the hypothesis if you ask me. The soul is what I call the inner body, I think this is the inner form of what we are. Although, we cannot see it, many names have been given like consciousness, life energy and the spirit, we can surely say there is something unique about it. I think the fact that we can perceive things, conceptualise things, intellectualise things makes it definitely real that we have something called a conscious. We are all conscious beings. This is the universe in our creativity, in our abilities, in our thoughts and ideas. The fact that we can think on such levels shows that we could all be ‘mini universes’ continuously creating and expanding. No matter what we try to look at spirituality, it all originates with this Universe that is a definite fact of existence. Now, this may mean that our mind is the soul and although we cannot see the mind, we know it exists. There is always a fight between the mind and consciousness but really they could both be the same. The difference could be is how do we train the mind. Do we want to be good humans? Do we want to be driven by creativity? No matter how rational scientists may be, whenever it comes to making a new theory or coming to a profound conclusion, everything they do is irrational to the human mind. However, what they find out may be important to the construction of something great and marvellous. Therefore, these rational or irrational thoughts must originate from what I call the soul or what we call the soul. It is within us but still remains separate but it is what is the interconnection within us all. We all think, we all are conscious, some of us are aware of this and some are not. Hence, meditation is something that makes us aware of the things that become a habit to us. The little acts are beautiful and within the perception of habit these tiny acts become lost without meaning. The fact is, we all may have souls but you cannot just say it. You need to know it exists. For me the soul is definitely alive when I feel a deep and inner connection with everything and everyone that surrounds me. These feelings of consciousness is the definition of the soul.
Our thoughts, actions, state of inner being, the awareness of everything are what the soul defines itself. Is it who we are? It definitely is the only mirror that we have, where we can look at our own selves and be the harshest critics. This definition that we need to be something is something useless. We have a limited time and I feel that I am always in this useless bubble of trying to prove something I am. I simply am and my soul in harmony with my body can create that. So is the soul the mind? Very much! Now many will argue and say they are different. Yes, they are different in perception and definitely in theory in the language of spirituality. However since the soul is always associated with goodness and the mind with evil then this has led us to believe that they are two different things. They are not. They are one. It is one. It is this constant battle that we have within us to prove we are living souls and not minds is what makes everything dream-like and the facade of religion continues. Now the mind is nothing but your soul’s projection or my soul’s projection. Therefore, make your mind your soul and see how it defines you. The thing is we have a problem with having our judgments and expectations of what a good person or an enlightened person should be like and it is this very thing that throws us away from our own enlightenment. The fact is your own enlightenment has nothing to do with anybody in the past but it has something to do with you now. It is the very evolution of your soul. This is enlightenment. Enlightenment is the awareness of the evolution occurring in your soul on a daily basis.
Therefore the body must contain the soul. However, being souls does not mean anything special. All the difference is that an enlightened person is aware hence they transcend the concept of life and death. They know their reality. If you know your reality then really living or dying is nothing but events that have to happen and will happen. Your soul is also part of the fear and it is the very thing that will conquer the fear too. Therefore, I emphasise a lot on the soul being your thoughts, your creativity, your art, your vision, your actions, your emotions and nothing is greater than transcending this all and realising that your soul is part of one Ultimate Portrait. These are things that will last until you want to put them to rest. They can only be put to rest if you feel that they have met their purpose. Hence, I will say that ghosts or bodiless spirits do exist because these are the thoughts that someone may be carrying and still have a form of burden upon this Earth. They still have not expanded into this universe. Like I said, everything here is just a theory, just a thought, it is upto you if you find it anything worthwhile. I am a spiritual ‘scientist’ who is always ready to prove myself wrong but also ready to prove what I say is right. See this soul has nothing to do with what is right or wrong and truly it only cares, if it really does desire then it is the desire to transcend. Death of the soul is the transcendence of being just an earthly spirit to the universal spirit. Hence, many write or say that they have merged with ‘God’ or with the Cosmos because this must be the soul. The mind of consciousness truly wants to be aware of its origins and of its continuous life without the restrictions of the human body form.
This then leads on to what happens to us when we die. I may have answered it a little earlier and this is what may be slightly different to mainstream thought. As I feel that everyone in their minds (souls) wants to leave an imprint or wants to either transcend but got stuck in the nature of this materialistic cycle of life. Thus they remain on this earth waiting for or looking for another body. This may support the theory of reincarnation. Or there is the possibility that the mind (soul) disappears when the body dies and that all conscious thoughts, ideas, emotions, visions and creativity has no way to perform without the use of the body and leaves it without any purpose. As now the body is not of a human form but of the form of the Universe. Why would we need to remain on this earth as souls? Do we have past lives? Even if we do have past lives then what significance does it have on this life? It has no influence at all. So it may be that our consciousness (mind/soul) needs to transcend and therefore needs to enter a new body but that would still be giving too much importance to the human life form. The fact is that if the energy of this Universe is one then surely this consciousness or soul is one. Nobody is different but the awareness could be different. In fact, it is the awareness that needs to be given importance. We may not be individuals in souls but our journey to reach this realisation of One Soul may need an individual person’s thought or creativity. The fact is that the journey will have to be made by ourselves as individual seekers. We have to merge with the reality. We may not like the reality that we are not individual souls but if the life spirit exists everywhere then we are no different. We are all one. Therefore, I do emphasise that everyone is on different awareness levels and that may be the cause why some transcend this whole cycle of life and death. In fact, do we die with this realisation or do we die without realising it? Would it make a difference? In my opinion, it would because we need to realise this because it is where we originate from. Our intelligence that is the soul is there due to the intelligence of this universe. Our intelligence or our soul is full of complexities because the universe is complete with complexities. This is the beauty of it all. Knowing that we are the intelligence in what created this whole universe. You can’t just read it and believe this. You have to know it. How you will know it that is your own individual journey. But you will know it. You will get that transcendence. The transcendence is the realisation.
As I will conclude, your soul, my soul and everyone else’s and everything that has a soul are all one. There is no difference in soul. We are not individual souls. The difference is our awareness. Become aware of the Reality and then you will know that the only importance is to live life knowing that it will never end and be that person who wins with the last laugh.

‘Thoughts’ is to be part of a new e-book compilation).
Whilst in meditation today, I had submerged into a moment of pure silence. Now, this silence is not as normal as I thought it would be. This time, I felt like I had been hypnotised. Imagine not thinking at all. Imagine having no thoughts. In this particular state that lasted two minutes, I felt like I had been sitting hours in prayer. I had realised so much but it had made me question a lot.
For those who know me well, I read a lot on Osho. Funny enough, he was saying that there is not a God – well not the one you imagine up in the sky or say even is a Single Being. On top of that, I had been writing my poetry for days and even then I felt that religion’s version of God cannot exist. But I have faith in spirituality. But I cannot believe there is a superior being somewhere that will decide my fate of paradise or eternal damnation.
In fact, I had been brought up with the concept that ‘Self-realisation is God-realisation’. Now I can say this statement is true. For it is yourself that you must realise and if you realise who you are (trust me the answer is so simple, I am sure many fools have ignored it) then that means you have realised God. Now, Osho questions how can you say you believe in God and then fight that God exists. When we see light, we don’t say – ‘Yes, I believe that is light.’ No! We say – that is light. End of. We know light exists. And if anyone tells you that they have seen God because they saw a bright light – they are lying to you. They have not even realised themselves, they have been told by religious texts that God-realisation occurs when you see a bright light. So therefore, in the anticipation they have only imagine that light. it is a fragment of their imagination. They have realised that they have imagination but they have failed to remain in nothingness – which is essential.
So this got me thinking even more that realistically, to know God, I got to know myself. And if it means that by realising myself means I have realised God then ultimately that means I am God. Before, people shout blasphemy, look at what I am writing logically and it will work. If you don’t agree then question me.
Therefore, the existence of a Separate One God – I simply cannot accept. I can believe that God is purely creative. It is a divine, creative Energy but I cannot accept anything else. I can accept it is formless but the form (what we see around us) – cannot be an illusion. God is not a magician, God is a creator – an artist. In fact, the creation is a distraction to remove the nature of nothingness. God is a trickster and a joker. God definitely has a sense of humour. If we know nothingness exists then God definitely exists. But God is ever-expanding, it is infinite Energy that I am part of, that you are part of (but you are yet to realise that). I also realise that my Guru is right. In fact, he is God to me. He knows the reality. I can see the logic in his teachings. For humans to understand God, you have to tell them that God exists and then you come with the statement ‘Self-realisation is God-realisation’. That is the best statement that has ever existed. The fact remains that when we become the self – then we have become God. We have gone and experienced the nothingness. It is pure bliss. I cannot say that God does not exist but I don’t believe in the God that religion has created. I can see the God that is within us, within me and within you. The God that is pure creative energy. That creative energy has made everything out of love. So whatever God is, I know God is pure love. If I have realised who I am then I can give pure love. Otherwise, I will be continuously expecting love and falling out of favour with love. I will continue to believe in the stupid concept of give and take.
So the question has been answered so far. Does the religion’s God exist? No. Does the God of pure Energy exist that we have in each one of us, each one of us who is unique? Yes. We are all a constellation of One Soul. That is probably the best image I can give that we are all linked by One Soul. That One Soul is everywhere, it is always going to exist.
I still feel that my thoughts are not enough but this is enough for today. I don’t want to scare people too much.
Lots of love and God bless.
